Attitude Industries - Derek Fischer
Interview by Dallas Fischer
Some of our private labels have developed much like coaches in the National Football League. You start out being an assistant and learning
more about the game, but eventually your ultimate goal is to become a head coach and run things the way you want. Derek Fischer started
working for Mark Dobeck and Dobeck Performance back in 2004. He learned our technology and how to apply it to all types of vehicles, but
then decided he would rather concentrate on the market he liked the best: snowmobiles.
The snowmobile industry is the most unique industry of any we have to deal with. These guys are building unbelievable machines, putting out
incredible HP numbers, and then run them through the worst weather conditions. Tuning a
|
snowmobile has a lot more to it then just understanding the motor and fueling. Clutching also plays a large role in
achieving a machine's maximum performance.
I've had the opportunity to go on a number of rides with Derek, but none was better than riding in Utah last spring. We enter a large bowl
in the back-country with a number of other riders around to do some hill climbing. A particular rider comes up to us noticing we have
Attitude Industries' stickers on our sleds. The individual is having problems dialing in his Attitude controller he had just installed
and was looking for help. Luck being on his side the guy just happened to run into the owner. Now without hesitation, Derek checks the
guy's controller light settings,
|
with permission takes the snowmobile on a few pulls up the hill, and then has the guy make a final ride. The rider
comes back and is ecstatic about the difference and how well the sled runs now. Derek explains the modes to him one more time
and we drive off to continue our ride for the day. That's customer service. That's understanding our technology. That's how to tune
a snowmobile.
You want to modify your sled then I recommend calling Derek Fischer at Attitude Industries to get started. Just make sure you leave a
message because Attitude is a small operation and sometimes they're out working. Tough life when working is riding a snowmobile.

How did you end up in the snowmobile business?
Well it was always my passion. I loved to work on snowmobiles and mod them out. When I worked at Dobeck Performance, Mark let me take my passion and start the TFI side for the snowmobile industry. I soon wanted to get in the performance side so I set out on my own and eventually started Attitude Industries.
You are located in Utah. How did you end up there?
Utah is known for its innovation in the sport. Some of the biggest performance shops are located within a 200 mile radius of Salt Lake City. We test close with our manufactures that are building aftermarket parts so it makes sense to be in their back yard to help them with R&D.
What annual event do you like to take part in the most?
Well I would have to say there are two events we like to take part in. The Fairview Shootout is one of the biggest races with High HP sleds. It's in our backyard and people show up from back east, Canada, and many other places to see who has the fastest mountain sleds. A lot of them use our product in their builds so it's fun to meet them and see the big iron run. Second would be the Jackson Hole hill climbs. This is when we see our factory riders compete for the world championship in hill climbs. It's great to be there helping your riders tune their snowmobiles and see how they do. We have an all-star group we sponsor and it's great to see them win titles.
What's with the name of your company - 'Attitude'?
I started some other companies and things never worked out. I wanted to do my own business and run it the way I wanted to. I spent months thinking of a name. Then I decided to think of slogans rather than a name. "Give your ride an attitude adjustment" always kept being one of my favorites so that's how Attitude Industries was born.
Outside of your business and snowmobiles, what one activity could I find you doing?
WOW, what a question. I would have to say it would just have to be something outdoors.
What do you currently ride for a snowmobile?
I have a 2007 Polaris Dragon 700. It has a SPS turbo running up to 20 lbs of boost. It's a fun and light sled. Plus you gotta love the looks when a little 700 beats up the bigger sleds. I also have a 2008 M1000 with a CPC Turbo, with lots of bling bling.
What snowmobile would be your dream sled to have in the garage?
I guess whatever is new. Right now a Skidoo 1200 turbo would be nice.
